Vote No! Because It Hurts Small Businesses in Albuquerque

This ordinance will be especially hard on small businesses that are already struggling to make ends meet. The last thing small businesses need is another local mandate that will make it harder to keep good workers employed.

This ordinance is long, complicated and expensive especially for small businesses without HR departments. If this ordinance passes, businesses will move outside the city limits or leave the state in order to stay competitive. It will result in 3,700 fewer jobs and longer commutes for Albuquerque residents.

No other city in the entire country has a sick leave policy as expensive and expansive as this ordinance. Other cities, like Denver, rejected similar proposals because they hurt small business and result in fewer jobs.

This ordinance will be especially hard on charities and non-profit organizations that will be forced to provide paid leave but do not have the financial resources to meet the requirements of these costly new mandates.
